sour cream, there’s one thing I want to ask you
We have two sour cream containers in the fridge, and I have this thing about consolidation. Sometimes, I’ll take out more of the ingredient than is proportionally appropriate for the meal just to have the pleasure of finishing it off.
“We need to finish this off,” I say.
“Or you could just enjoy it?” she replies.
“Hm —“
I want to get through the sour cream tub the same way I want to get through my day. I treat it like it’s better if it’s gone. I engage with it by wanting to skip over it, as if the goal is to be on the other side — done with.
Sour cream, there’s one thing I want to ask you: when I treat you like this, what am I missing out on?
